"Jesus, Son of David, Have Mercy On Me!"

December 19, 2014

The Bible, in chapter ten of the Book of Mark, tells us of a day when Jesus was traveling with His disciples when they came upon the little village of Jericho. There in the village was a blind beggar, named Bartimaeus, who sat on the roadside. A crowd of people had gathered near the same site as Bartimaeus because they were anticipating the arrival of Jesus, and amongst their thronging he must have heard the people saying, “Jesus is coming.”

Mark writes, “When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’” (Mark 10:47 NLT).

He could not see how near or how far Jesus was, but he knew his best chance was to shout and call for Jesus as loud as he could. After all, this might have been the only chance he would have to meet with Jesus and ask for a miracle.

“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” he persisted. He apparently was causing quite a ruckus because the Bible says the crowd tried to quiet him. But he was desperate, so he cried out even louder, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Finally, Jesus heard him, stopped walking, and called for the blind man to come to Him. Once in His presence Jesus asked the man what he wanted. Quickly Bartimaeus told Jesus he wanted to see and Jesus healed him because of his faith.

Here is the beautiful part: Do you need Jesus today? Do you believe He can help you? If you thought Jesus was passing your way today would you call out to Him for help? Even though people might attempt to quiet you, would you keep calling His name?

Take heart, I have it on good authority that Jesus is passing your way today. If you will call on Him, He will stop and answer. Don’t miss your blessing today. Use the blind man’s words as your own, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
