Living for God's Glory

By Ashley Hines Piner

Paul shares a wealth of valuable information throughout 1 Corinthians. He talks about the importance of unity within the church, the functions of the body of Christ, how the Holy Spirit gives us spiritual gifts to build up the Church, the need for reverence and order in worship, and one of my favorites—1 Corinthians 13—where he teaches that love is the greatest virtue above all others.

1 Corinthians 16:13–14 —Be on your guard, stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.

Now that we’ve heard the principles Paul has shared, we are called to live for the glory of God! Paul encourages us as believers to act in ways that glorify God and reflect His love. We have freedom in Christ, but with that freedom comes the responsibility to point others to Him.

Paul says in 1 Corinthians 10:31—“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” This verse is part of a broader conversation about freedom and responsibility, but ultimately, it instructs believers to consider how our actions reflect our faith.

How can we live for the glory of God?

Even in our day-to-day actions, like eating and drinking as Paul mentions, everything we do can honor God when we posture our hearts toward Him. We don’t need “grand events” to glorify God—we should honor Him in the intricate moments woven throughout our day. When we live to glorify God, we put Chapter 13 into practice by loving all and prioritizing the spiritual well-being of others. Our hearts become rooted in gratitude, and through these things, our lives become a testimony of God’s grace and love.

Application: Today, show kindness, patience, forgiveness, and love. In every task you perform, no matter how big or small, complete them with a heart that points to the goodness of God.

Prayer: Father, thank you for the words that Paul shared with us in 1 Corinthians. Thank you for showing us how to live as believers, and thank you for your grace when we fall short. Lord, we want to live a life that glorifies you and points others to your grace and freedom. We desire to give you all of the glory, honor, and praise. In your Son’s precious name. Amen!
