A Comprehensive Study Guide to the Psalms

The first book in the series on the Book of Psalms, A Compassionate Shepherd, covers chapters 1–41. This section of the Psalms parallels the book of Genesis and portrays how God blessed, how man fell from God’s grace, and finally how God redeemed man when he asked for forgiveness. God is portrayed as a shepherd. He provides blessings and protection for His children. Let us praise and adore Him for his unending love.

The second book, God Rescues Us, covers Psalms 42–72. This group of psalms parallels the book of Exodus. Israel was in ruins, but God came to its rescue. God can rescue us from disastrous problems. Subjects of these psalms include rescue, confession, encouragement, slander, missions, and trusting God. We can all relate to any or all of these and how we stand in awe of God who delivers. Oh, worship our God who comforts us in all of our trials of life.

The third book, Celebrating the Holiness of God, covers Psalms 73–89.

This section of psalms is primarily written by Asaph, David’s choir director, or one of his descendants. It parallels the book of Leviticus. These psalms relate to the temple and God being ruler of worship. God deserves our praise because we can go to Him for salvation and deliverance. This part of the book of Psalms celebrates and proclaims God’s promised covenant and proves His faithfulness with David. He is worthy of our worship!

About the Author

Vicki Dixon has been a lifelong student herself and has also had a constant desire to share with others what she has learned through her own studies and experiences. Her early years of sharing involved teaching elementary school students. Later, she served as a high school principal where she enjoyed passing on the rewards of learning with students and teachers as well. Additionally, Vicki served as an Adjunct Professor in the College of Education at East Carolina University where she sought to instill in senior interns a love of sharing in the education of others. Vicki has shared her enjoyment of music with many—both in school and in her church as she serves in many capacities. Upon her retirement as an educator, she embarked on the role of leading Bible studies for women of her church. She seeks to encourage and inspire others to participate in areas of service where they, in turn, have opportunities to study God's Word and share what He teaches.

Vicki Dixon lives in the Black Jack-Grimesland area of Pitt County, North Carolina, and is a member of Black Jack OFWB Church. She eagerly and actively supports her two daughters, her son-in-law, and two grandchildren.
